Music
Electionic Dance Music
I grew up on techno and trance way before it was combined into the genre of electronic dance music or EDM. To this day, I still enjoy listening to EDM for it's complex production as well as how many sub genres exist for it. Check my Instagram as I'm always posting music I enjoy in my stories.
Concert Venues
Red Rocks Ampitheatre (Golden, CO)
Red Rocks Ampitheatre is one of the top tier concert venues there are for music. The acoustics are good but there was a time where they had limitations on how loud concerts could be played. I still recommend anyone to go to this venue for a show. You'll generally have a good time but be careful where you park as some entraces make it a bit difficult to get to... as in you have to be in shape to get to the venue.
Mission Ballroom (Denver, CO)
I actually like this venue a lot for my Denver concert people. It's situated downtown in Denver and for winter concerts, it's quite good because it shields you from the weather. It's structured well so you can generally the action when you're up in the stands.
Festivals
DecadenceNYE
This is the one festival which I have tried to move away from every year and yet somehow, every year, I end up at it. I'd like to try other New Year festivals but this one keeps pulling me back. Maybe this year, I'll finally be able to break away from it, doubt it.
Global Dance
I think when I was younger, not that much younger but definitely when I started into the festival scene, I enjoyed Global Dance. These days, I find it lacking in lineup and would rather go to a Breakaway concert.
Breakaway
2024 is when I tried my first couple of Breakaway festivals. One in Tampa and another in Kansas City. It's much smaller and I would say a much more intimate kind of experience but that's where the charm in it lies. Highly recommended if there are artists you want to come and see.
Electronic Daisy Festival
I'm going to put this into two separate sections as I will have been to 7 of these festivals each over the years and both are quite different in their own right.
Orlando
I would say, if you were to attend a big festival, EDC Orlando would be the place to start over Las Vegas. There is a larger focus on fun and it's only 4-5 stages so quite managable. I don't feel as intimidated at EDC Orlando as I do at EDC Las Vegas. It takes about 15-30 minutes to get into and out of the festival. It's at Tinker Field at Camping World Stadium. Highly recommended.
Las Vegas
What can I say about EDC LV but it's essentially the largest and what I call the final boss of electronic festivals. Some may say it's Tomorrowland but for US festivals, I'll say it's EDC LV. I wouldn't recommend going to this if you haven't experiences a few festivals in general. The reason I say this is because it requires work to get to and return to.
Almost everyone that will attend EDC LV plans a year ahead. You will most likely stay on the strip to have access to the shuttle busses plus it's nice to have access to all the food and fun of the strip. Now the reason why I would always take the shuttle over driving is simply, once each day ends, you are exhausted and the last thing you want to deal with is traffic. If can take 1-4 hours depending on traffic to go and come back.
Once you are at the festival, it's a beautiful place. Lots to see and do from rides to festival sets. It is very hot though so think you will be in a survival mode in a sense since it's in the middle of the dessert and you do need to stay hydrated. My favorite part each year has been the fireworks, that in itself is worth going. They spend something like 10 million dollars a year on fireworks alone and trust me, it makes July 4th seem 'Cute'.
What I do at these festivals in my friend groups is actually carry a flag around. It may seem strange but it's the best way to find people and make sure everyone sticks together. The unfortunate reality is a lot of thieves roam EDC so having your phone out isn't always the best idea.
Overall, I have enjoyed my experience at EDC. Lots of good vibes, great people, and amazing memories to be made. Plus, I get to add to my list of DJs I love to listen to and see new DJs rise up in the music world.
